Dear friends, family, and whoever else might stumble upon this site,

I've created this blog as a place to record my training, progress, thoughts, feelings, and other mussings as I work towards my New Year's resolution of completing a Century - riding (yes, on a bicycle) 100 miles in a single day. The road towards acheiving this goal will be a long one, requiring not only a great deal of physical training and preparation, but also a high level of mental fortitude and plain old sticktoitiveness (is that even a word?). The latter will probably prove to be more problematic than the former.

All messages of support, encouragement, and hope are greatly appreciated.

Warm weather, stomach problems, and an epiphany

Well, Saturday was absolutely beautiful - 60 degrees and sunny - but I didn't get to go ride. My stomach was acting up rather badly, and I just didn't feel up to it. So instead I sat in my chair and glared out the window at all the people going by in their shorts and t-shirts. I was still sick on Sunday as well. But this morning, while I was busy sulking about not having gotten out to ride this week, I had an epiphany of sorts.....

So far I've really only been out riding on the weekends. I'd really like to be able to ride in the evenings too, but it still gets dark too early and I don't get home from work soon enough. I think this is the first year that I've eagerly awaited the change to daylight savings time. (Yeah, I know. That's probably a sign that I've lost my mind, entirely, but I can't help it.) And then it hit me, I get off work between 4:00 and 4:30 most days. The sun doesn't set until 5:30-ish, and there's a good half hour of usable light after that. What says I have to go home before I ride? Why not throw the bike in the car and ride after work BEFORE going home?

So, tomorrow I'm going to do just that.
